A Look At The History of Rolex Sports Watches (According To Rolex) + The Deep Sea Special

by on Nov.10, 2010, under Review

I know a lot of watch collectors, and about the nuttiest around are the vintage Rolex guys.  The meet-ups, the forums, the seemingly endless pursuit of the next great watch – it’s all part of the fun.

Long a point of curiosity among vintage Rollie guys and the entire WIS community is how a brand with such a tremendous history, and one of the most dedicated fan bases around, can overlook their past as they do.

Well Thursday night I attended an event hosted by Rolex and Tourneau where the brand’s history wasn’t overlooked at at all, in fact it was brought front and center.  In addition to presenting the Deep Sea Special, the watch taken deeper than any other, they showed 12 watches that represent some of their long history in the world of sport timepieces.  It really is interesting to see which models they selected to display, and equally interesting to consider which they did not.

Check out the quick slideshow below to view 12 watches that Rolex themselves deem worthy of displaying as a representation of their past.  I’m curious, which models would YOU include in a visual timeline of Rolex sport watches?
