The Harry Winston Premiere Perpetual Calendar: The Third Bi-Retrograde Perpetual Calendar In The Fleet

by on Oct.12, 2010, under Review, What's New

Ask the average New Yorker what they think of when you mention the name “Harry Winston” and they’ll likely respond with “rocks – big ones”.  But, ask the average watch nerd what they think of when you mention this name and you’ll likely hear the word “Opus”.

Yes it’s true, the Opus line of watches are HW’s most acclaimed timepieces, and the series has brought some of today’s most famous independents to the spotlight (think Christophe, Felix, and of course the man who started the Opus line, Max).  One such example of a little Harry Winston-bred horological foreshadowing is the Opus V, which is every bit an Urwerk.

But, the Opuses (or is it “Opi”?) aren’t all that HW Timepieces has to offer.  In fact, just recently they launched the Premiere Perpetual Calendar, the watch you see to the right.  This watch is the third bi-retrograde to come out of HW in the past twenty years.  The first was launched in 1989 as a world first, and the second was released in 2007 (details here on both).

This third bi-retrograde perpetual calendar comes in white gold case at 41mm and anthracite dial.  The automatic movement features excentered hours and minutes, a second timezone, a bi-retrograde perpetual calendar displaying the date and month, and of course the requisite leap year and moon phase indicators.
